Tega Cay families can tour a working fire station, try out a fire extinguisher and meet the firefighters who respond to their 911 calls Sunday, Oct. 4.
The Tega Cay Fire Department is hosting a free public open house at Station 1, 1195 Stonecrest Blvd., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to a city announcement posted Monday, Sept. 28. The event is open to the entire community.
The open house falls at the start of October, which is National Fire Prevention Month. The National Fire Protection Association sponsors the annual observance to educate families about fire dangers and prevention.
What to expect
The department's community events page lists hands-on fire safety demonstrations, including fire extinguisher training, station tours and a chance to meet Tega Cay firefighters. The department said the event is aimed at teaching families practical fire safety skills.
Visitors will get a look inside a station that serves as headquarters for the department's two Tega Cay firehouses. Station 1 houses Engine 1, Ladder 1, Brush 1 and technical rescue equipment, along with four firefighter/NREMT personnel on duty. Its primary response district covers the business district and the east side of Tega Cay for fire, EMS and rescue calls.
Fire Chief Glyn Hasty leads the department. Hasty was recently named president of the South Carolina State Fire Chiefs Association.
How to attend
The open house is free. No registration details were listed on the city's website.
