Tega Cay Fire Chief Glyn Hasty leads the statewide organization representing South Carolina's fire service leaders after being sworn in as its president.
Hasty took the oath during the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs' 82nd Annual Fire Leadership South Carolina conference. The event ran Monday, Sept. 21 through Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort. The Tega Cay Sun first reported the news.
Hasty moved up from first vice president, according to the association's website. He succeeds Chief Shannon Tanner of the Florence Fire Department, listed as past president.
He is not the only area chief on the executive committee. Indian Land Fire District Chief Greg Nicholson serves as first vice president. Lancaster City Fire Department Chief Justin McLellan holds the role of South Carolina state director for the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs. McLellan previously served as the association's president.
Hasty has led the Tega Cay Fire Department since April 2019, according to his city biography. He brought 37 years of experience in fire, rescue, emergency medical services and emergency management across both volunteer and career roles.
Before arriving in Tega Cay, Hasty retired as a battalion chief with the Charlotte Fire Department, where he served at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. He holds an associate degree in fire protection technology and a bachelor's degree in disaster and emergency management from Western Carolina University. His credentials include Fire Officer 3 certification, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification and designation as a South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager.
The department operates one station.
The association's next scheduled event is its Spring Training conference, Feb. 26 through Feb. 28, 2027, at the Anderson Civic Center in Anderson.
