Tega Cay will host a free Revolutionary War ghost tour at Catawba Park on Friday, Oct. 30, blending Halloween thrills with a history lesson partly funded by a state grant.
The event, called "Ghosts of the Revolution," runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. near the soccer fields at the back of the park. Costumed performers from Sigmon Theatre will portray soldiers, patriots and everyday people from 1776, sharing stories along the park's paths.
No tickets are needed.
The production is financed in part by a grant from the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250), a state body funding projects tied to the nation's 250th anniversary. SC250 offers competitive grants in three tiers, topping out at $125,000, though the city has not disclosed the specific amount it received.
"It is an honor to be the recipient of the SC250 grant," Caroline Hasty, events manager for the City of Tega Cay, told YoCo News. Hasty said the city is working with Sigmon Theatre to create a living-history experience marking the nation's 250th anniversary. Sigmon Theatre will produce the performances.
The company has done similar SC250-funded work in the area, staging a patriotic living-history show called "Spirit of America" at the Fort Mill Amphitheater on Friday, July 3.
The ghost tour headlines a full week of Halloween programming in Tega Cay. Here's what else is on the calendar:
Pumpkin Palooza returns for its third year. Residents, families, clubs and church groups can carve jack-o'-lanterns and compete for prizes and a trophy in three categories: Most Creative, Most Complicated and Best Traditional. Registration closes Sunday, Oct. 25, and entries must be dropped off by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at the city sign by Memorial Gardens. The carved pumpkins will be displayed there under string lights each evening from dusk until dark, Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Halloween night.
Boos and Ghouls, Trunk-or-Treat takes over the Glennon Center parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. A DJ will provide music, and the Tega Cay Lions Club is sponsoring a costume contest for all ages.
