Tega Cay will begin building a roundabout at Stonecrest Boulevard and Ledgestone Court on Tuesday, Sept. 1, bringing weeks of delays for drivers in the area.

Construction starts Tuesday.

The project is expected to wrap up by Oct. 10, according to a city traffic alert posted Thursday, Aug. 27. That gives crews roughly six weeks to replace the current intersection with a circular traffic pattern.

During the construction window, a temporary traffic pattern will take over the intersection. Temporary traffic signals will direct vehicles through the work zone during all hours. During the day, traffic control personnel will also be on-site to help manage flow and guide drivers through lane shifts. At night and overnight, the signals will operate on their own without staff present.

The city is asking drivers to build extra time into their commutes. Motorists who can avoid the intersection entirely should use alternate routes, the alert said.

On its official Facebook page, the city described the project as an installation of a "traffic circle" at Stonecrest and Ledgestone and said motorists should expect minor delays. The city's civic alert uses the term "roundabout," though both terms sometimes describe similar intersection designs.

Council member Heather Jones shared the construction timeline on her official Facebook page, calling it a public service announcement about upcoming road work on Stonecrest. Jones's post confirmed the Sept. 1 start date and Oct. 10 target completion.

The city has not released the project's cost, named the contractor performing the work, or explained why this intersection was chosen for a roundabout. No prior council vote on the project appeared in available public records.

The next stated milestone is the Oct. 10 completion date.
