A 60-year-old Tega Cay man is jailed without bail on charges he hid cameras in two victims' bedrooms. One victim is a 16-year-old girl; the other is an adult woman.
Charles Douglas Lieske faces three counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of voyeurism, according to court records and arrest warrants obtained by the Rock Hill Herald, which reported the case Sunday, Aug. 23.
The cameras were small devices that plug into a wall outlet with a USB port, resembling ordinary cellphone chargers, according to a York County Sheriff's Office incident report. Investigators allege Lieske placed them in the bedrooms of the two victims.
The investigation began when screenshots from a video feed were discovered, the incident report states. Arrest warrants show Lieske also had screenshots of the recordings stored on an iPad.
Charges and penalties
The three first-degree sexual exploitation counts are felonies under South Carolina law. Each conviction carries three to 20 years in prison. The two voyeurism counts are misdemeanors, each punishable by up to three years.
South Carolina Code Section 16-17-470 defines voyeurism as knowingly recording another person without their knowledge or consent, in a place where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy, for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire.
No trial date has been set. No public statement from the York County Sheriff's Office appeared on the agency's website or social media accounts as of Thursday, Aug. 27.
The charges are allegations. Lieske has not been convicted.
