Nation Ford High School's theater program will stage two musicals this fall, starting with a jukebox show in October and following with "Come From Away" in November.
The first production, "Finding Your Voice," runs Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The show follows six students navigating friendship, fear and first love during a high school theater season, set to songs from Broadway favorites. The Fort Mill Now event listing describes the musical as a story about having the courage to be seen and to stay in the room when it matters most.
The fall season's second production is "Come From Away," which Fort Mill Now calls a "Broadway hit." The musical tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Newfoundland after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, when residents of a small town took the travelers into their homes. The show is rated PG-13.
"Come From Away" runs Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Nation Ford Theatre Company Booster Club said on Facebook that the cast and crew are already deep into rehearsals.
Theater director Scott Albert leads the Nation Ford drama program, which earned multiple Blumey Award nominations earlier this year for its spring production of "Catch Me If You Can." The Blumey Awards, presented by Blumenthal Arts, recognize high school musical theater across the Charlotte area. Among the spring nominees were Mark Said, Kaedyn Giannini, Rebekah Font, Winston Kendrick and Mia Amautovic, according to Blumenthal Arts.
Tickets for both shows are available at nafotheater.ludus.com. Pricing was not listed as of Oct. 5.
