Fort Mill's Paige Thomas, a 2026 Nation Ford High School graduate, has been awarded the General Assembly Women's Caucus scholarship by State Rep. Jackie Terribile.
Terribile, who represents South Carolina House District 66 covering portions of Fort Mill and Tega Cay, announced the award Tuesday, Sept. 1. Thomas plans to study education in college and become a teacher, following her mother into the profession.
The South Carolina General Assembly Women's Caucus scholarship program allows female state legislators to recognize young women in their districts.
Terribile, a member of the House Education and Public Works Committee, said she specifically chose Thomas because of her commitment to teaching. She called Thomas's decision to follow her mother into the classroom "especially meaningful."
"It is about building relationships with students, recognizing their individual strengths and helping them see their own potential," Terribile said.
Before her election to the state House in 2024, Terribile served on the South Carolina State Board of Education and worked as a substitute teacher in the Fort Mill School District.
Thomas is the latest in a pattern for Terribile's scholarship picks. Last year, both of her recipients were also students preparing to become educators.
