Nation Ford's marching band scored 87.500 to repeat as Overall Champion at the 2026 BandBEAT Marching Band Championship on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill.

The win gives Nation Ford back-to-back BandBEAT titles after the band also claimed the top prize in 2025, as first reported by the Tega Cay Sun. Nation Ford also won the competition in 2023. D.W. Daniel High School took the Grand Championship in 2024, when Clover High School won the Class 5A title.

Fort Mill High School finished second in the Class 5A division with a score of 85.200. Mooresville High School of North Carolina placed third at 80.750.

Nation Ford swept every caption award. The band earned Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance and Best Overall Effect across all competing classes.

BandBEAT is organized by Carolina Crown and presented by Yamaha Corporation of America. The Class 5A designation covers bands with 80 or more wind players, and the Grand Champion title goes to the highest overall score regardless of classification, according to Carolina Crown's event page.

The competition put two Fort Mill School District bands on the podium at a Fort Mill venue. All three district marching programs are described as nationally ranked by band organizers, according to WRHI.

Fort Mill High's band, directed by Ren Patel, fields more than 200 students. The band's 2026 show, "In My Beginning," draws on T.S. Eliot's poem "East Coker" and music by Max Richter and Gustav Mahler.

Nation Ford's band is led by director Linkous and associate director Roddy, according to the Nation Ford band website.

The area's marching programs showed their depth at the national level last fall. At the 2025 Bands of America Southeastern Regional near Atlanta on Nov. 1, 2025, Catawba Ridge won the regional championship, Nation Ford finished second and Fort Mill placed fourth.

Nation Ford heads next to the Bands of America Carolina Regional Championship on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Brooks Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. Preliminary competition begins at 7 a.m., with the top 12 bands advancing to finals at 7 p.m., according to Music for All. The BOA Carolina Regional is one of three overnight Bands of America events on Nation Ford's 2026-2027 schedule.
