Fort Mill beat Catawba Ridge 38-17 on Friday, Aug. 28, snapping a years-long losing streak in the rivalry.

The Yellow Jackets had never beaten the Copperheads, dropping all previous meetings in the series, WBTV reported. Catawba Ridge ended Fort Mill's 2025 playoff run with a 13-3 win and had held the Yellow Jackets to 7.8 points per game across the rivalry, according to a Four Quarter Friday preview.

Fort Mill controlled this one from the first quarter.

Catawba Ridge struck first with a 39-yard field goal after forcing a turnover on downs at the Fort Mill 40-yard line. Fort Mill answered immediately. A long kickoff return set the offense up at the Copperheads' 39, and quarterback Harper Love found wide receiver Jameson Terrell for a 35-yard touchdown. Kicker Noah Hardy converted the extra point for a 7-3 lead.

Running back Broden Mitcheson punched in a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to push it to 13-3. Then the defense took over. Defensive back Matthew Tillman intercepted a Catawba Ridge pass at the 25-yard line, and Love connected with Terrell again on a 40-yard touchdown to make it 20-3.

Catawba Ridge cut the halftime deficit to 20-10 with a 21-yard passing touchdown late in the second quarter.

The Copperheads never got closer. Mitcheson scored two more rushing touchdowns in the second half, a 1-yard plunge in the third quarter and a 2-yard dive in the fourth after teammate Aiden Welch picked off another pass. Andrew Kowalski added a two-point conversion run, and Hardy drilled a 25-yard field goal to build a 38-10 cushion. Catawba Ridge's Greyson Love scored a late 2-yard rushing touchdown for the 38-17 final, the Tega Cay Sun reported.

Love finished with two touchdown passes, both to Terrell. Mitcheson had three rushing scores. Tillman and Welch each recorded an interception, continuing a trend from Fort Mill's 28-7 Week 1 win over Clover on Aug. 21, when both players also picked off passes.

Nation Ford shut out 56-0 by South Pointe

Nation Ford's night went the other direction. South Pointe, the defending SCHSL Class 4A state champion, rolled to a 56-0 shutout of the Falcons on Friday, Aug. 28.

The Stallions scored 28 points in the first quarter alone, including two quick touchdown passes. A 60-yard passing touchdown stretched the lead to 35-0 by halftime. South Pointe added three rushing touchdowns in the second half while its defense intercepted multiple Nation Ford passes.

Nation Ford, coached by Jake Bentley, fell to 0-2 after opening with a 21-14 loss to Gilbert on Aug. 21. South Pointe, led by fifth-year head coach Bobby Collins, finished 14-1 en route to the 2025 state title.
