Catawba Ridge's boys volleyball team beat Legion Collegiate Academy 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, improving to 15-8 overall and 4-3 in Region 3-4A heading into a pivotal home match against Nation Ford.

The Copperheads won by set scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-21 and 25-23. The fourth set was the tightest, with Catawba Ridge needing a timeout before scoring the final two points to close out a 25-23 set.

"We have a good team," head coach Ross Lisee said. "It has just been more about consistency. Consistency in sets and staying focused between sets."

Lisee said the playoffs are within reach but the Copperheads need to keep winning. Next up is a Region 3-4A match at home against Nation Ford on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6:15 p.m., according to MaxPreps.

That site ranked the Copperheads No. 9 in South Carolina and No. 4 among Class 1A-4A programs as of Monday, Sept. 28.

Nation Ford girls stay perfect in region

The Nation Ford girls volleyball team swept Clover 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-20) on the road Tuesday, Sept. 29, pushing its record to 22-4 overall and a perfect 9-0 in Region 3-4A, as first reported by Fort Mill Prep Sports.

It was the second time this season the Falcons swept the Blue Eagles in region play. Nation Ford won 3-0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-15) in the teams' first meeting Sept. 3.

The Sept. 29 rematch was closer in the first and third sets, but Nation Ford never dropped a frame.

Head coach Craig Brown's squad has not lost a region match all season. After the Falcons' Sept. 10 sweep of Catawba Ridge, Brown said his team played "aggressive" and executed "Nation Ford volleyball."

The Oct. 6 boys match between Catawba Ridge and Nation Ford tips off at 6:15 p.m. at Catawba Ridge High School.
