Catawba Ridge kicker Josh Crick was named the 5A/4A Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 3 by Tri-County high school football coaches.
The award, voted on weekly by coaches from York, Lancaster and Chester counties, recognized Crick after the Copperheads' 34-30 loss to Boiling Springs on Friday, Sept. 4. No specific stats from the game were released with the honor.
In the Copperheads' Week 2 loss to Fort Mill on Aug. 28, Crick drilled a 43-yard field goal after a 10-yard penalty pushed the team back. That kick came in a 38-17 defeat at Bob Jones Stadium. The game was Fort Mill's first varsity football win over Catawba Ridge in six years.
The Copperheads sit at 1-2 through three weeks. They opened with a 24-6 win over Blythewood on Aug. 21 before dropping back-to-back games to Fort Mill and Boiling Springs.
Head coach Zac Lendyak pointed to offensive struggles after the Aug. 28 Fort Mill loss. "We really struggled to get the run game going," Lendyak said after that game. "… At the end of the day, we have to find a way to move the ball and get first downs."
Despite the early losses, Catawba Ridge is receiving votes in the Class 4A statewide media poll, according to Week 4 rankings published by the Fort Mill Sun. Fort Mill climbed to No. 10 in Class 5A at 3-0.
The other Week 3 Tri-County 5A/4A award winners:
- Player of the Week: Nigel Lightner, Rock Hill High

- Defensive Player of the Week: Jahmad Moore, York High School
- Offensive Lineman of the Week: Beau Chumley, Northwestern High
